One that got away

Would-be thieves got more than they bargained for when they were detained at the scene of their alleged crimes.
Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Garry Cox said police responded to a 5:25 p.m. call on Monday, June 30 to the Old Dutch Inn in Qualicum Beach.
"Staff there had caught a male inside a vehicle in the parking lot,"said Cox. "The male was detained by staff until police arrived."
He said the rear window of a 1990 Honda automobile had been broken to gain access and an arrest was made without incident.
Charged with mischief is a 28 year-old Nanamio man that Cox said is well known to police.
In a similar vein, volunteer firefighters at the Bow Horn Bay department corralled a man on June 25 who they believed was responsible for break-ins to nearby vehicles. This time, however, the suspect got away.
"He eventually escaped on foot into the bushes,"said Cpl. Cox. "We located a Yamaha motorcycle at the scene stolen from Crofton in May."
A police service dog was brought in to track the suspect but RCMP indicate he stole another motorcycle to make good on his get away.
The suspect is described as 6'1"tall with brown hair and a full beard and was wearing a plaid shirt, jeans and work boots at the time. He is suspected of breaking into salvage cars at the department that are used in fire fighting exercises.
"Something was removed from underneath one of the steering columns,"said Cox. "The fire hall itself wasn't too concerned with what was taken from the vehicle."
