Man hit by car

Police are looking for the public's help in finding out who was responsible for a hit and run that left one area senior lying bruised and bleeding in the crosswalk.
Oceanside RCMP Corporal Garry Cox said the incident happened at 1:45 p.m. Friday, when a vehicle reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign at a crosswalk in the Save On Foods parking lot at Wembley Mall.
"A 71-year-old gentleman was on the crosswalk and he was struck by a motorist and knocked to the ground,"Cox said. "He suffered a major laceration to his face and some bruising. The vehicle continued on without stopping and was last seen heading towards the arena."
An employee of Save On Foods helped the victim, assisting until an ambulance arrived and took him to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Cox said police raced to the scene and attempted to find a witness.
"Police attended but could find no witnesses who can give us a description of the suspect vehicle. We are asking anybody who may have been around at the time. We are desperately looking for a witness."
Anyone who saw something is asked to call 248-6111.
