No mood for a spring federal election

The House of Commons is back in session after a week-long break, and rumours are flying on Parliament Hill about the possibility of a spring election.
However, federal politicians in the Oceanside area aren't holding their collective breaths.
Nanaimo-Alberni MP James Lunney doesn't think voters are likely to be called to the polls any time soon, noting all the signs had been indicating a spring election last year as well.
"I can't discuss this without full disclosure that I was wrong last spring,"Lunney joked. "I said there would be one then, but that didn't happen. It cost me dinner with two colleagues."
Lunney said holding together an unstable minority government is always a challenge and it's hard to say when it will fall.
"A new election law mandates the latest an election can be held is October of 2009.
"Who knows? With the opposition's help we may survive that long,"Lunney said.
"We have a confidence vote coming up shortly on a budget implementation bill some time this week, and if the other parties are determined, that could do it."
